The English fall a bit short in the food competition against other countries, but that is not to say that they do not have their own unique, and famous, delicacies. Here are many foods that make up English cuisine:
- Fish and Chips
The world may refer to it as a lazy dish, but the English love a good serving of fish and chips. English chips are usually chopped thick and long before frying. The fish is deep-fried, and the two are served together on one plate. It is a favourite dish for both takeaway and dinner in restaurants.
- Roast Meat and Yorkshire Pudding
The meat is usually roasted over an open fire or in the oven. It is marinated with spices as it cooks, making the final product rich brown in colour. Lamb is the most common meat in the UK, although beef, pork and chicken are also popular.
Yorkshire pudding is a batter made out of milk, flour, and eggs, which is put in an oven and baked. The pudding is moistened using a gravy and is usually eaten as a starter or with the main course, rather than being served as a dessert.
- Toad-in-the-Hole
This is a dish prepared similarly to the Yorkshire pudding, but with sausages in it.
- English Breakfast
A full serving comprises of bacon, eggs, sausage, mushrooms, fried bread and baked beans.
- Bangers and Mash
This combination of sausages (bangers) and mashed potatoes is a hugely popular meal all over the UK.
